Testimonies & Messages of Support

For Ragıp Zarakolu:

Ragıp, you have had the courage to concentrate on the truth at a time when many publishers are concentrating only on money. It makes us sad that you have lost your freedom when others in our industry are careless of theirs. We send you our love and support and hope you will be released soon. SCOTTISH PEN.

    Dear Ragip,

I heartily congratulate you – you are the only friend of mine who has been imprisoned and nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize with only some weeks’ time between! And the best of all is your release – may it be final! I do not know how many times I have been present in Istanbul courtrooms, monitoring the more and more ridiculous “trials” against you – some judicial authorities will have serious problems explaining how they can accuse a man nominated for the world’s foremost Peace Prize for terrorism!

If it had not been for my lung problem, I should have come racing, but I cannot travel any more. But in my thoughts, I am always there. My wife as well. And we both hope that your son will soon be with you!

With my warmest regards (and a symbolic glass of raki)

Kjell Olaf Jensen (ex-president, Norwegian PEN)
